Villa v Wigan pictures: Training upbeat ahead of Saturday clash

Villa's pre-match training was upbeat today ahead of the Wigan game, just as Paul Lambert wanted.

Lambert spoke in his press conference of the need to keep things positive at Bodymoor in the wake of two heavy defeats over the festive period.

And the players took his lead with the atmosphere buoyant, bubbly and focused in the build-up to Saturday.

There were some notable absentees, however, with Darren Bent, Gabby Agbonlahor, Ron Vlaar, Nathan Baker, Charles N'Zogbia, Gary Gardner, Andreas Weimann, Richard Dunne all injured.

But the boss said the players who were fit would come out strong in front of a passionate Villa Park crowd.

He said the whole camp was hurting after the two defeats - but equally determined to bounce straight back.

He said: "There are two ways to look at it. It's whether you want to be positive or negative about it. I try to be positive as best I can.

"And we will get the team up and running, they will go again and give it everything they've got on Saturday.

"You take that criticism on the chin. It makes you stronger. There's no hiding from it. It makes you stronger - you think okay, no problem. You go again.

"You pick yourself up or you sink. We're certainly not going to go sinking."
