Villa handed home draw against Ipswich in FA Cup third round

Villa have been handed a home draw against Ipswich Town in the third round of the FA Cup.

Paul Lambert will pit his wits against new Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy in the clash which will take place at Villa Park on the weekend of January 5/6.

The two sides last faced each other in a goalless top-flight encounter at Portman Road in March 2002.

They have met five times in the FA Cup, with both clubs winning twice and the other ending in a draw.

The last of those ties was in February 1996 when Mark Draper, Dwight Yorke and Ian Taylor fired Villa to a 3-1 fifth round win in East Anglia.

Other third round ties include West Ham against Manchester United, Swansea versus Arsenal, Southampton at home to Chelsea, Cheltenham or Hereford against Everton and Crawley versus Reading.

Liverpool will travel to the winners of Lincoln and Mansfield, while Middlesbrough will welcome either Harrogate or Hastings.

Stay tuned for news of the date and ticket details for Villa's clash against Ipswich.
