Villa Park has played a "crucial role" in wowing a host of national business leaders.
Marketing Birmingham welcomed 25 leading national buyers to its second annual Meet Birmingham Showcase event, impressing visitors with a comprehensive overview of the region's conferencing credentials.
Organisers from across the country gathered in the second city to take part in over 50 hours of face-to-face meetings with over 30 of Meet Birmingham's partners, including conference centres, accommodation providers, event support suppliers and sporting venues.
The influential buyers - representing huge national companies - were checking out venues in our city as they look to place over 15,000 events for 2013.
And Villa Park played a "crucial role" during the extremely busy two days for our second city visitors.
Villa's Restaurant VMF was selected as the eatery of choice for the evening meal on the first night.
It was picked out due to its epic sustainability record since opening two years ago.
With more and more companies focusing on corporate social responsibility, Meet Birmingham chose Villa Park and Restaurant VMF because of its reputation in the field.
Buyers were also given an exclusive tour of Villa Park - helping to showcase the club's facilities in a cool and cosy way - before tucking into some delightful food.
Executive Chef Peter Reed explained the story behind the award-winning eatery, which sources 80% of its produce from within a 40-mile radius of the stadium.
And Ian Taylor, commercial director at Marketing Birmingham, said: "The positive feedback received by both buyers and our partners following a very productive two days of meetings, venue tours and informal discussions has been very pleasing.
"With £85,000 of immediate business secured in 2011 as a result of our inaugural Showcase, the event is becoming an important fixture in the city's conferencing calendar.
"Aston Villa, along with its award-winning Restaurant VMF, played a crucial role in this year's event, showcasing its facilities and making buyers feel welcome with a great evening of food and a very entertaining stadium tour."
Graham Robinson, Director of Venue Finder Solutions, said: "The Meet Birmingham Showcase has been an education with a good mix of individuals and venues. It has been promising to see that Birmingham cares so much about conferencing and events and has a developing range of facilities, with excellent transport links both for the UK and overseas.
"The city is clearly investing for the future, both in the hotel sector and with its events facilities. I've also learned from my afternoon of visits that the region's sporting venues are now also able to deliver a quality conferencing service."
Business tourism plays a key role in the city's overall visitor economy of £4.9b.
