Alan Hutton will link up with Nottingham Forest on an emergency loan until January 1.
The 27-year-old Scotland international arrived at Villa from Tottenham on transfer deadline day in August 2011.
He started 29 games and made two substitute appearances last season but, from the beginning of this season, found his position at right-back usurped by Mattie Lowton who has been a consistent performer in manager Paul Lambert's young, emerging team.
"He's shown a good attitude in training, so there are no qualms on that front," Lambert said of Hutton in the summer.
