Paul Lambert's men lost at the Etihad Stadium but it could have been a different story, had the linesman kept his flag down and not awarded a dubious penalty.

Andreas Weimann was adjudged to have handled when replays cleared showed he didn't touch the ball whatsoever.

The resultant spot-kick from Sergio Aguero made it two-nil to City and they eventually went on to score three more.

It could have very different had luck been on Villa's side, however.

Despite the loss, Lambert will have taken the positives from a display which, in parts, showed great promise for the rest of the season.

Club snapper Neville Williams has taken a host of good shots from the game and you can take a look at them now in our match console's picture gallery.
