Andreas Weimann said the heartbreaking defeat to Manchester United left the Villa squad feeling "like we had lost a cup final."
A stunning victory looked in prospect for Paul Lambert's team after Weimann scored a brilliant brace.
And the Austrian hotshot almost made it a hat-trick, only to be denied by the reflexes of United goalkeeper David De Gea.
But the Red Devils came roaring back from two goals down to head back up the M6 with all three points.
Weimann admits it was deflating to be on the end of another comeback from Sir Alex Ferguson's team, who have now won 15 points from losing positions this term.
"I should be happy because I scored two goals against Man United, but we lost the game so I don't know how to feel at the moment," said Weimann.
"The way we've been playing the last couple of weeks with the two wins, and the way we played on Saturday, shows we are growing in confidence.
"We're a young team and the gaffer said after the game that if we keep playing like that we'll get a few more wins and start climbing the table.
"Right now it feels like we've lost a cup final but the gaffer said to keep our heads up because if we keep performing like that we'll get results."
