Villa Ladies preview: Hunt calls for "competitive edge"

By Paul Brown

Joe Hunt has called for a "competitive edge" from his side as Villa Ladies face Barnet Ladies on Sunday.

Hunt says his team are in "great spirits" after three wins in a row but he wants more of the same as they go in search of delight on the road.

Hunt knows that Barnet Ladies will be "contesting every ball" and wants his youthful side to match that enthusiasm throughout the ninety minutes.

He said: "We're looking forward to the trip to Barnet on Sunday.

"The squad are in good spirits. It's amazing what a few good results do for the group.

"This is a massive game for us. We've done well recently so we want to continue that.

"Barnet will be a very difficult place to go. They will be contesting every ball, every second ball so we must make sure we are ready for the challenge.

"I rested and rotated some of the players last week so hopefully they'll be eager to return."

Livy Fergusson is ruled out while Carly Davies faces a late fitness test.

He said: "Livy has been ruled out with a virus which has wiped her off her feet. It's a shame because Livy was showing some very positive form over the last few weeks.

"We'll be checking on Carly as well as she's been suffering lately with concussion and she also ran a marathon recently.

"We don't need to risk any players as we have some good numbers who are fit and performing well."
