Darren Bent heads into the clash with former club Sunderland insisting that Villa are starting to find their "rhythm and rapport".
Bent believes Villa are very close to firing despite an inauspicious start to the campaign.
He said: "I think we're getting closer. We're getting chances but we're not finishing teams off.
"We are turning the corner and I think someone will get a hiding off us one day.
"I think we will turns things around sooner rather than later.
"It's good when you have good players in the side like Stevie and Brett.
"Karim's done well, Gabby creates stuff and Christian wins headers.
"We have players who can create, we just need to create some rhythm and rapport in the team.
"Then it becomes second nature.
"Ashley Young and Stewart Downing were ideal. But they were like a luxury. It was fantastic but they've gone now.
"We have more than enough players to create chances."
Villa, of course, have invested in up-and-coming starlets to make Villa a force again.
Bent thinks the young lions will roar soon.
He added: "The younger players have come in and they have to learn quickly.
"We have players from the lower league and they will have to learn quickly.
"They've all settled in really well though. They're all fighting to get into the team. You'll be seeing them really soon."
