Villa 1-1 Norwich: Guzan says effort from the team was "first-class"

By Paul Brown

Brad Guzan was proud of the players after toughing it out for a point against Norwich.

Guzan was hoping for a maximum haul and believes that would have been delivered if Lambert's Lions had retained all eleven men throughout the game.

He admits the match became "complicated" when Joe Bennett was dismissed.

But he was impressed by the fighting spirit in front of him as the claret and blue troops staged a mighty defence of the goal to earn a valuable draw.

He told AVTV: "We know it was a good effort in terms of being able to hang on and get a point.

"But at the same time we were disappointed not to get three because we came in at half-time one-up. We felt that was a situation where we could go out in the second half and get a second goal and put the game to bed.

"But that's not how things panned out and you have to adjust accordingly.

"Any time you can down a man it's going to be difficult, especially in this league. There are so many quality players and quality teams.

"It made it more complicated for us. But the effort in front of me was absolutely first-class."

Guzan also hailed the support of the fans throughout the ninety minutes.

He added: "The fans were brilliant. They were with us from minute one.

"It was obviously not the result they wanted but the support has been fantastic, home and away.

"When you hear the roar of the Holte End it gives you that little bit extra to keep going, especially when you're down a man."
