Jordan Graham's penalty wasn't enough for Villa's U18s as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Southampton.
The table-topping Saints took the lead through Jake Sinclair's early strike.
On six minutes, Sinclair found himself through on goal and he drove a left-foot shot past Calum Barrett.
But Villa almost staged a perfect response when Kevin Toner's looping header hit the top of the cross bar.
Southampton also hit the post before Villa skipper Malcolm Melvin saw his effort cleared off the line by Charlie Higgins.
The home side's goalkeeper, Will Britt, then denied claret and blues defender Mason Watkins-Clark who headed at goal from close range.
Villa continued to push for an equaliser after the break but Britt easily dealt with substitute Ricardo Calder's strike.
However, the Saints doubled their advantage through Ryan Seager.
Tom Leggett supplied the cross from the right, which bounced once in the penalty area before Seager nodded over the goalkeeper.
Seven minutes from time, Villa were handed a lifeline when Jordan Graham was fouled by Will Wood.
The Villa winger stepped up to pull one back from the penalty spot.
The goal reinvigorated the visitors, who continued to search for a way back into the game.
But Saints top-scorer Seager had the final say, meeting Dominic Gape's corner before acrobatically converting.
