Acorns scoop top award after successful Villa text campaign

After the appeal to fans for votes Aston Villa FC and Acorns Children's Hospice are delighted to announce that the hugely successful text to donate campaign with Paul McGrath has won 'Best Use of Mobile Fundraising' in the 2012 Digital Fundraising Awards.

The local charity won the award based on public votes after the huge success of their text to donate challenge in September 2011.

Elinor Eustace, corporate partnerships manager for Acorns, said: "We're really pleased to have won this Digital Fundraising Award, following our text campaign with Villa.

"The event was a fantastic opportunity for supporters to get involved and donate by simply texting during the game.

"The fans responded in an amazing way and the money raised was enough to fund a ten-bed hospice, providing care and support for local life-limited children, for a day.

"Thanks to all our supporters for responding again by voting for us."

The challenge, which led to the nomination, saw Villa legend, and fan favourite, Paul McGrath take to the pitch and ask the crowd to text a donation in support of the football clubs partnership, raising £7,500 in vital funds for the local charity.
