Paul Lambert paid tribute to the players and the crowd after the deserved fightback against West Brom in the 1-1 draw.
Lambert was absolutely thrilled with his lions as they shrugged off 120 minutes against champions Manchester City to go again in the derby with the Baggies.
The manager also hailed the fans for their "relentless" support as they pushed Villa forward time and again.
He said: "I think it was harsh going behind especially after the first-half. The goalkeeper has made two world class saves and when you go behind, especially in a derby, it puts you on the back-foot.
"I thought the response was great especially after 120 minutes on Tuesday. It was a big, big ask but the response was excellent.
"The crowd were unbelievable in the way they kept with it. I am proud of them.
"We were relentless after 120 minutes on Tuesday. It was a big, big ask to go again. I knew that.
"They were running on empty on Tuesday night. To come back like that in a derby game, I am absolutely delighted with the team.
"They have been absolutely brilliant for me. I have nothing but pride in them.
"This football club has been hurt for the past few years and we've come in to try and rectify really quickly.
"I can really sense the supporters want us to do well. They were relentless, they kept on going. I have nothing but admiration for everybody."
On coming back after going a goal-down, he continued: "That's the sign of something when you go a goal down and get a bit of a knock against you and you keep on.
"It's a great trait, as long as you never wilt. You might get beat but as long as you keep going! That's great to have and we showed it in abundance."
Lambert was also thrilled with the contribution of Darren Bent, as the fab forward came off the bench to bag the equaliser.
Lambert joked that it was a "world-class substitution" on his part.
He added: "Darren has nothing to prove to me. I know what he can do and the goalscoring record he has.
"But as I have said before, I need everybody at the football club. It's a hard, hard league. We are going to have to use everyone to perform. The goal was brilliant, it was a world class finish."
