Paul Lambert was thrilled that the "huge effort" of his players paid off with a "massive result" as Villa saw off Manchester City in the third round of the Capital One Cup clash.
Lambert hailed the attitude and aptitude of his team as they excelled for large periods and showed invincible character to twice come from behind to win at the Etihad Stadium.
Lambert accepts that the players will be tired tonight but believes the adrenalin coursing through their bodies will stave off any affects ahead of West Brom on Sunday.
He said: "It was a massive result for us, really huge, but I think the way we played was excellent, right from the off.
"I think we have been playing really well since the Tranmere game.
"We played well against Newcastle, we were excellent against Swansea and for forty-five minutes on Saturday I thought we played really well.
"You get games like that where you can't put your finger on why the second half went the way it did.
"It was a brilliant response from the team. I thought they were excellent.
"That was a huge effort from us. I don't think we deserved to go a goal behind.
"We showed big character to come back, not just once but twice to win the game. I was delighted with them.
"I think it was the whole team. They were fantastic.
"The fans will come in their thousands to watch us on Sunday. It will be really hard game against West Brom but we are at home and hopefully we can kick on.
"The lads will be tired. There are a lot of tired bodies in there. We were up against a really good side. But that's the nature of the beast.
"I have always said that if you're in a competition, you're in it to win it.
"The adrenalin will be really high at the moment. They will get a day off or so and go again in the later part of the week. They are really buoyant at the minute."
