Brett Holman watched Matt Lowton crash home a wondergoal for Villa against Swansea and then asked: "What have the chefs been feeding him?"
Holman joked about the seemingly vast improvements in Lowton's shooting skills during his short time away from camp on international duty.
But, in spite of the humour, Holman insisted that the goal "inspired" the team for the rest of the game.
He said: "I have been away for ten days with Australia - I don't know what they've been feeding Matty during that time?
"Fair play to him, what a great goal that was.
"It was tremendous and we needed it. A goal like that inspires the team.
"The technique was exceptional. It's one of those things where you've got to try it on the day.
"It will make other players try things and have a go in future games. It was fantastic."
Despite the fantastic result, Holman is adamant there's more to come. He insists that Villa are still a work in progress.
He added: "You can see that we're working on things in training and it's coming together.
"You need time to get the team to gel and get used to each other. You still see that.
"But we definitely played some nice football in the game."
