Ron Vlaar insists Villa will approach today's clash at Newcastle with a positive mindset despite back-to-back Barclays Premier League defeats.
Vlaar is ready to rise to the challenge of overcoming last season's fifth-placed team at the Sports Direct Arena this afternoon.
Although the claret and blues have made a disappointing start to the league campaign, the Dutch centre-back is adamant Paul Lambert's team are on the right track.
And Vlaar sees no reason why Villa cannot produce a performance in the North East that kickstarts their campaign.
"We have to believe and trust that we can get results and that can happen on Sunday," he said.
"You never start a game and think you will lose and that's the same on Sunday.
"You never know how it goes, a lot can change the game, but we have to go and start and know what our qualities are and what we can improve.
"If you lose then it is never good but other people are not here every day tp see the way we try to train and the way we try to improve the play.
"We have some new players and a new manager and it needs some time to get used to each other and the things the manager wants. It will be better."
Newcastle were the Premier League's surprise package last term, with astute signings such as Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse helping to propel them into the European places.
Vlaar believes he can adapt quickly to the rigours of the English top-flight in the same way the Newcastle's overseas recruits did.
"It's not just about experience, it is about focus and mindset," he added.
"They tell you what to expect but after one game you know it yourself because you have experienced it already.
"After the Nottingham Forest pre-season game I had played against two big strikers and that is almost what happens almost every week.
"You have to experience it yourself but I think then you can adapt very fast.
"I want to learn every day, I want to pick the good things every day."
