Paul Lambert has hailed the importance of Shay Given and Richard Dunne to the Villa cause as he prepares to welcome the experienced duo back into the fold.
The Republic of Ireland pair will link up with the new boss for the first time next week having been given extra time to recover following their participation in the European Championships.
And Lambert is looking forward to welcoming Dunne and Given back.
He believes their experience could prove vital because they have "been round the course before".
"They're two experienced lads, they're not kids and they've been round the course before," said the manager.
"I spoke to the two of them earlier on in the Euros. It was a hard tournament for them with what happened.
"But they've done great for Villa in the past and had fantastic football careers let alone anything else.
"But they've been over the course before and once I see them I'll have another chat with them."
Lambert reckons the duo will bounce back from a disappointing Euro 2012 campaign.
Ireland suffered an early exit from the tournament in Ukraine and Poland following group stage defeats to Croatia, Italy and eventual winners Spain.
"Shay and Richard have had two fabulous careers at both international club levels," added Lambert.
"Shay has about 955 caps and Richard has a lot too. They know the game.
"They aren't young kids. They know the high level of football it is, which is great.
"It's a great honour for them I'm pretty sure to have taken part in a major tournament.
"Ok it might not have gone the way they wanted it to go but they were still part of it, a great tournament.
"Spain won it and they were the best team in it and as people have rightly said, they are one of the best team ever.
"But I am pretty sure the experience will be good."
