No operation for Weimann but striker bracing himself for big pre-season

Andreas Weimann is "bracing" himself for an early return to pre-season as he gears up for a successful 2012-13 campaign.

Weimann injured his knee in the draw against Tottenham but the good news is he won't need an operation on his medial ligament.

Instead he will be fitted with a special protective brace and be assessed throughout the summer.

The Austrian ace will then return to Bodymoor Heath a fortnight before anyone else to step up his fitness bid ahead of an important term.

He said: "I don't need an operation. It's a grade two medial ligament in my right knee.

"I'm going to be fitted with a special knee brace on Tuesday and I need to wear that for four weeks. I don't need crutches, just the brace.

"After the four weeks I think I can start with leg weights. They've said eight weeks in total so hopefully I should be fit for the start of pre season.

"After the brace is fitted I can go home for two weeks, so I'll go back to Vienna. Then I have to come in for a check up for a week.

"Then I get a little more time off. And after that my pre season will start, two weeks before everyone else I think. It's not too bad."

Weimann admits he's gutted to be injured but accepts it was almost the perfect time to pick up the knock.

He added: "I was saying that it is better to get an injury around this time because I am only going to miss one game.

"Obviously you never want an injury, but it's probably the best time I could have got it to be honest.

"Brad kicked the ball away and when he did that he caught my toe and my knee just went the other way and twisted away.

"It was pretty painful at the start. Obviously I tried to play on and I was all right running straight but I just couldn't turn and that's when I knew I had to come off."
