Charles N'Zogbia and Alan Hutton have an outside chance of making the Liverpool game but Carlos Cuellar looks set to miss out.
N'Zogbia [knee] and Hutton [calf] face a race against time for Saturday's clash at Anfield but if they fail to reach full fitness by the weekend, they could still make Monday's match with Stoke.
Cuellar [thigh], meanwhile, is still on the treatment table and is likely to miss both Liverpool and Stoke clashes.
Ciaran Clark [knee] has had an annoying week too, suffering a setback in his comeback.
Boss Alex McLeish said: "It's a little bit of walking egg shells with a few of the lads. I saw the injured boys on Tuesday. They have been working separately.
"Charles and Alan have been working with Alan Smith. As far as I can see Alan was very happy with their progress.
"I met Hutts passing in the corridor and I saw Charles in the treatment room. They said they feel good.
"We hope that they could be available, if not for the Saturday game against Liverpool, possibly the Monday game against Stoke.
"But we'll be guided by the medical guys this week. However they're making good progress.
"Carlos is still on the treatment table. Maybe it's a bit too soon for him these two games.
"Ciaran's had a wee setback. He should have been back with the group this week but he's had a little setback that's delayed his progress and his comeback.
"A lot of the kids, like I've said every week since the start of the season, have had a real baptism fire in the Premier League.
"They did well against Chelsea and there they will get stronger."
