Hutton: Taking on Tottenham will be weird and wonderful

By Paul Brown

Alan Hutton admits it's going to be weird taking on former team Tottenham - but he's absolutely buzzing ahead of the exciting evening encounter.

The match will represent Hutton's first return to White Hart Lane since his high-profile move to Villa in the January transfer window.

And he says it will be strange going into the away dressing room and pitting his wits against his former pals.

But he can't wait to get out there, look to impress and ultimately attempt to come away with the three points.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait.

"I played down there for quite a few years and obviously I know all the boys really well.

"It will be good to see them all. Playing against them will be a strange sensation, mainly because I am going back for the first time. But I'm really relishing it.

"It is strange whenever you take on a former team for the first time.

"Everything you know is turned around. The fans who used to support you, the boys you regularly played with, they are all suddenly on the opposite side. That's the strange bit about it.

"But I am relishing it. I haven't seen a lot of them since I left so that should be good.

"But overall I am really eager to go down there and win. It's tough but that's what we're looking to do."

Hutton, of course, looks set to face Gareth Bale head-to-head, a star he rates as "one of the best players in the world."

He hopes his time spent with Bale in training at Tottenham will stand him in good stead as he looks to stop his forward-thinking game.

He added: "Last season, Gareth was one of the best players in the world.

"I trained and played a lot with him. It's going to be a tough test but one I am really looking forward to.

"You do get a better idea if you've been around someone. I know how well he can play and what he's capable of and it's difficult for any player in the world to deal with.

"But obviously playing with someone for four years you know them a bit better. Hopefully that helps me."
