Mixed fortunes for Baker and Weimann at U20 World Cup

There were mixed fortunes for Villa duo Nathan Baker and Andreas Weimann, who were in action for their respective nations at the U20 World Cup in Columbia.

Baker lined up for England against Argentina last night as the Three Lions earned their second consecutive goalless draw.

Brian Eastick's team, who were held by South Korea in their first group game, put in a much improved performance in Medellin but could not crack the resistance of the South American outfit.

Billy Knott, Saido Berahino, Matt Phillips and Callum McManaman all tested Argentina in front of a 40,000 strong crowd although England were forced to settle for a draw.

Unfortunately for Baker, his game ended after 31 minutes when he had to be replaced by James Wallace because of injury.

The result means a victory over Mexico on Thursday would guarantee England a place in the knockout stages of the prestigious tournament - although a draw may still be enough.

The match in Cartagena kicks off at 11pm English time.

Meanwhile, Weimann's Austria have much slimmer hopes of making it out of the group stage after a 3-0 defeat by Brazil in Barranquilla.

The Villa forward played for 68 minutes but there was little he could do as the Samba stars exerted their dominance with goals from Henrique, Philippe Coutinho and Willian.

Having drawn 0-0 with Panama in the opening game, Austria need a convincing win over Egypt in Cartagena on Friday to stand any chance of progressing.
