Richard Dunne has hailed the shot-stopping heroics of Brad Friedel after singling out the veteran goalkeeper as Villa's star performer this term.
The American custodian produced yet another world class display in last Sunday's victory over Newcastle with a string of saves in the final 15 minutes.
It has been a record-breaking season for the former Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool keeper.
As well as extending his record number of consecutive Premier League appearances, Friedel sealed his place in the claret and blue history books by becoming the oldest player to represent the club.
Irish defender Dunne is extremely grateful to be lining up in front of such a class act.
"I think Brad has been the one consistent player over the season," he told AVTV.
"He has been there for every game. He has saved us on numerous occasions and in the last 10 to 15 minutes on Sunday he was brilliant.
"Any corners or crosses or shots - he was there to block everything. Having somebody like him behind you is a real confidence booster for a defence.
"Newcastle didn't have many chances but the odd one they did get on Sunday you always believed Brad was going to block it."
Dunne believes passion and professionalism are the key ingredients for the 39-year-old's longevity.
Asked if he could see his own career lasting as long as Friedel's, Dunne replied: "I very much doubt it, not at his level anyway.
"For any player to be doing it at that age is amazing - it is a full credit to him.
"The way he looks after himself and how much he loves his football really show.
"You look throughout the Premier League at the goalkeepers and he is up there with the best of them."
