Young People and Community Engagement Manager

Fixed Term (Initial Fixed Term until 31st May 2021) 

(Full time- 35 hours per week, which may include evenings, weekends and school holidays) 

The Young People and Community Engagement Manager will be responsible for developing and managing a range of youth and community engagement programmes, as well as working with key stakeholders to help address local priorities and build community cohesion.

Key Responsibilities:  

Project Management

  • To oversee the development and execution of the Foundation’s work on the young people and community engagement agenda, including (but not exclusively) Premier League Kicks, Prevent, Football Welcomes, Ramadan League, community action projects
  • Manage the assigned budgets for all young people and community engagement programmes including the finance, payroll, and invoice process for all part-time coaches and external delivery staff
  • To oversee the monitoring and evaluation of all young people and community engagement programmes including the recording of attendance statistics, case studies, evidence and impact for midterm and end of year reports for funding partners
  • Lead on all risk management aspects of youth and community project delivery including staffing levels and qualifications, health and safety, and safeguarding
Staff Management

  • To coordinate a team of full and part-time staff to manage and deliver young people and community engagement programmes, including regular staff observations and assessments
  • To ensure that all management processes are in place to develop a high performing and progressive culture through effective communication, training, regular 1:1 supervision meetings and robust quality assurance mechanisms
Building Capacity 

  • Increase the range and impact of projects and programmes to benefit young people and community engagement in Birmingham and surrounding areas to tackle key local issues and priorities
  • To develop and manage relationships with key local, regional and national stakeholders including local community groups including West Midlands Police, Birmingham City Council. the Police Crime Commissioner, Youth Offending team, Premier League – representing the Aston Villa Foundation at an operational and strategic level and attending/ leading the relevant steering group meetings
  • To secure funding and revenue streams to sustain and grow the Aston Villa Foundation youth and community engagement projects
  • Ensure that all young people and community engagement programmes have delivery standards in place and maintain the values and culture standards set out by the Club and Foundation
Pathways
  • Work with the Programmes Manager to ensure a joined approach to work across the Education and Inclusion departments and alongside project leads to ensure clear pathways are in place for participants from activity through to training and/ or employment
  • Create links with key external partners to feed into further internal and external training, development and educational pathways, including employability programmes and apprenticeships 

Essential qualifications and experience required: 

  • Proven experience in and relevant qualifications in managing youth engagement and/or inclusion programmes within a sporting environment.
  • Proven experience of project management including reporting, budgets successfully managing and leading a team of staff
  • Experience in developing new projects and seeing through from concept to execution including project plans. Stakeholder engagement, marketing and promotion, and monitoring and evaluation
  • A track record of building and managing successful partnerships and external stakeholder engagement
  • An ability to connect and resonate with a wide range of stakeholders including local communities and young people
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate others Commitment to developing people within the workforce and the community

School Sports Coach (Casual)

Variable Hours (Including evenings and weekends)

We are looking for a School Sports Coach with a passion and interest in working with children to join our team.  The post holder will be responsible for delivering high quality extracurricular and/or school-based sports sessions. The successful candidate must have availability to deliver within school hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high quality football and multi-sport coaching sessions appropriate to the age and ability of the participants. 
  • Deliver coaching sessions where agreed on the following programmes: 
    • Football Holiday Courses – Soccer Schools
    • School Football Extra Curricular Activities.
    • Skills Centres
    • Player Development Centres
    • Partner Club Coaching programmes
    • School Sport – PE and Multi-Sport Curriculum and Extra-Curricular sessions
    • To produce and evaluate session plans for all activities.
    • Deliver classroom-based activities, i.e. literacy, numeracy, PSHE and STEM, using   sport as an enabler for learning.
    • Attending relevant planning meetings and staff training to ensure a joined-up approach to delivery
    • Signposting players through the Aston Villa FC agreed Player Pathway
    • To carry out all sessional Risk Assessments and communicate to all support staff
    • Ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to; including safeguarding, health and safety and equality and diversity
    • Support the wider work of the Foundation delivering on other sport and coaching programmes
    • Any other reasonable duties and responsibilities which your manager or another senior officer of the Club asks you to perform

Key Skills and Experience required:

  • Proven experience in organising, planning and delivering sport coaching sessions to a variety of young people within a school setting
  • Qualified to a minimum NGB Level 2 course (or equivalent)
  • Emergency Aid and Safeguarding Children qualifications
  • Commitment to ongoing training for personal and professional development
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate others
  • Ability to engage with people from all backgrounds
  • Effective time management
  • You will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and sign up to the online DBS update service.

Inclusion Sports Coach (Casual)

Variable Hours (Including evenings and weekends)

We are looking for an Inclusion Sports Coach with a passion and interest in providing positive diversionary activities to young people and activities across targeted areas in Birmingham. The post holder will be responsible for delivering engaging sports sessions during the evenings whilst focusing on support young people to make positive life choices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of community sporting activity sessions for young people under the Aston Villa Kicks project banner, that are reflective of their needs and the needs of the local community
  • To engage marginalised communities through outreach work in and around targeted areas of the City
  • To act in a supervisory role on Kicks sessions to lead and support part-time Aston Villa Foundation part-time staff and staff from partner organisations
  • To collect data and examples of how Kicks programmes impacts on individuals and communities in line with our impact reporting requirements
  • To recognise and raise awareness of signposting young people for their own progression to sports clubs or specialised partners/services
  • Work alongside Inclusion and Education teams in ensuring positive exit routes for young people from diversionary activities are provided both internally and externally
  • Any other reasonable duties and responsibilities which your manager or another senior officer of the Club asks you to perform
  • All health and safety checks are undertaken before, during and after sessions including participant registrations, dynamic risk assessments etc.
  • Liaising with delivery partners (coaches, instructors, schools, community groups) on safeguarding processes when working with third parties
  • Reporting any incidents or concerns when relating to safeguarding and welfare within their individual sessions and projects, in line with the steps outlined within this policy

Key Skills and Experience required:

  • Proven experience in delivering sport coaching sessions in a diversionary environment
  • Qualified to a minimum level 2 or higher award in youth work or sport/activity leadership
  • Emergency Aid and Safeguarding Children qualifications
  • Commitment to ongoing training for personal and professional development
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate others
  • Ability to engage with people from all backgrounds
  • Effective time management
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends
  • You will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and sign up to the online DBS update service.
