Aston Villa fell a 5-3 defeat against midlands neighbours Wolves in an eight-goal charity thriller on FIFA 20 – all in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
PS4 was the stage as a virtual Villa Park played host to the local derby, with all Premier League action currently suspended and the scheduled match between the two sides unable to take place.
The fixture was due to be Acorns’ dedicated charity takeover day, although fans were still able to show their incredible support courtesy of a virtual bucket collection – with the £4,145.47 raised going towards caring for some of the most vulnerable families caught up in the coronavirus pandemic.
Yet Villa, represented by defender Ezri Konsa, were left to taste defeat as Wolves, played by forward Diogo Jota, came out on top in a breathless encounter – Raul Jimenez bagging four goals.
The Mexico international opened the scoring early on, although Konsa’s Villa levelled after 12 minutes courtesy of Ruben Vinagre’s own goal on the line under pressure from Anwar El Ghazi following a header from the Dutchman.
Yet Jimenez restored the visitors’ lead just three minutes later before completing his hat-trick in the 19th minute to make it 3-1.
Jota himself got in on the action during first-half injury time to make it 4-1 at the interval.
Ally Samatta pulled one back for the hosts in the 56th minute, only to see Jimenez grab his fourth of the afternoon from five attempts to make it 5-2.
Villa substitute Wesley bagged in the 79th minute to set up an exciting finale but it was not to be for Villa, who saw Jack Grealish denied in injury time, as Wolves claimed the derby spoils.
