Aston Villa Women are delighted to announce the signing of Sophie Maierhofer.

The Austrian international joins the club after completing a football scholarship at the University of Kansas in the USA.

Capable of playing in defence and midfield, the 23-year-old has previously played for Werder Bremen in Germany and UMF Selfoss in Iceland.

Head Coach Gemma Davies said: “I’m delighted to welcome Sophie to Aston Villa, and feel she’ll be a valuable addition to our squad for the remainder of the season.

“She has already accrued international experience with her country and she fits the profile of player that we want to have here.

“We’ve got a team full of players who are eager to achieve success and Sophie will fit into the group perfectly.”

Maierhofer joins a team that are leading the way in the FA Women’s Championship, topping the table after 13 games.

The first chance for Villa fans to see the Austrian in action on home turf will be against Coventry United on 23rd February. Tickets are available here.
