Aston Villa’s Under-23s fell to a 4-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers in the Premier League Cup on Wednesday night.
Villa started brightly but Trialist B opened the scoring for Rovers in the 20th minute, before Max Watters doubled their advantage shortly afterwards to put the hosts in firm control at the break.
Watters added his second of the night three minutes after the restart at the Keepmoat Stadium.
And despite Tyriek Wright hitting the woodwork for Villa, Trialist C made it 4-0 just after the hour mark.
Defeat leaves Villa in third place in Group D and unable to qualify for the knockout stages, with three points from their five matches and one fixture remaining.
Villa: Sinisalo, Kesler, Revan, Bazeley-Graham, Bridge (Birch 50), Guy, Wright (Archer 69), Clarke, Vassilev, Ramsey, Philogene-Bidace.
Unused subs: Searle, Odutayo, Hooper.
