Ørjan Nyland is determined to help Aston Villa build upon positive recent displays in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.
The Norwegian goalkeeper stepped off the bench to replace the injured Tom Heaton for the closing stages of a vital 2-1 victory at Burnley on New Year’s Day.
And despite an FA Cup exit to Fulham, Nyland was in impressive form as he helped Villa secure a 1-1 draw at Leicester City in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
The 29-year-old is keen to see Villa progress in the second leg later this month, but insists full focus is firmly on three big league fixtures coming up – starting with reigning champions City at Villa Park on Sunday (ko 4.30pm).
“We definitely look forward to it,” said Nyland, looking ahead to the return tie in the League Cup.
“But before that we have important matches and we just have to take it game-by-game and try to grab points in the league as well because we need them."
He added: “We’ve just got to do as we have done now.
“We’ve played two really good games away against Burnley and now against Leicester so we have to take that to Villa Park on Sunday and hopefully we can put in a performance like we have done in those two games.”
