Aston Villa’s John McGinn has been named as Scotland Men’s Player of the Year for 2019, following a breakthrough international campaign.
McGinn, one of the stand-out performers for Dean Smith’s side in the Premier League this season, made his Scotland debut back in March 2016 but his form during the past 12 months has caught the eye.
His goalscoring prowess in particular has been key for Steve Clarke, with all seven of his international goals coming since the former defender took charge of Scotland in May this year.
Those seven goals have all come in his last six international appearances, including a hat-trick against San Marino in October.
McGinn has been recognised as Men’s Player of the Year, alongside Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert, who received the Women’s award.
To add to his impressive form with Scotland, Villa’s No.7 has scored three goals and recorded two assists in 17 league appearances and he was also nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for September.
