Villa’s Under-23s thumped Portsmouth 6-0 to register their first win of this season’s Premier League Cup campaign.
The Young Lions were playing their first fixture at the newly-opened facility at Bodymoor Heath, the club’s training ground, and secured an emphatic victory over their South Coast counterparts with a dominant performance.
Two quick-fire strikes from Jacob Ramsey and Cameron Archer had Villa two goals up at the break.
Tyreik Wright struck in the second half before Lewis Brunt’s effort made it 4-0.
Late goals from Dimitri Sea and an own goal completed the scoring for the hosts.
Mark Delaney was pleased with his side’s display.
“The lads performed well over 90 minutes,” he said.
“They controlled the game for long periods and scored some excellent goals.
“It was a good level of performance which the team will be looking to take into the last two games left in the league before the Christmas break.”
