Story in brief

Aston Villa led twice at Arsenal but couldn't hold on for victory as a late free-kick from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gifted three points to the Gunners.

We went in front early on through John McGinn, who glanced home a brilliant cross from Anwar El Ghazi after 20 minutes.

Nicolas Pepe then equalised from the penalty spot early in the second half, before Dean Smith's side broke up field through a mazing Jack Grealish run that just moments later, that teed up Wesley for our second goal.

But Calum Chambers and Aubameyang's late strikes ensured Arsenal, who had Ainsley Maitland-Niles sent off in the first half, edged a gripping contest.

One that got away

Smith was ultimately left disappointed as another good performance yielded no points.

It's been a theme of our start to the Premier League campaign, with displays against Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and West Ham United arguably deserving more than results suggested.

And with the Gunners down to 10 men for more than 50 minutes, the feeling that we should have come away with more will perhaps be similar again.

After Bjorn Engels gave away the penalty that made it 1-1, Villa quickly responded through Wesley at the other end, as Grealish beat four men on his way to a brilliant assist. Unfortunately, it still wasn't game over.

Chambers' 81st-minute breakthrough reignited the home side and their supporters, and top scorer Aubameyang planted into the far right to condemn the claret and blues to a gutting defeat.
