Match pack: Arsenal v Aston Villa

Game details

Game: Arsenal v Aston Villa
Date: Sunday 22nd September 2019
Competition: Premier League
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-off: 4.30pm

At a glance

Aston Villa face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium for the first time in three-and-a-half years on Sunday.

It's been a decent hunting ground for the claret and blues over the years, with only Manchester United and Liverpool winning more times in North London.

The Gunners haven't won any of their last three going into this, while Dean Smith's side have one win, one loss and a draw to their name.

Team news

Matt Targett is in contention to play at Arsenal having now fully recovered from injury.

Trezeguet also returns from a one-match suspension.

James Chester is unlikely to make his comeback this weekend as he continues to work his way back to full fitness. He is, however, back in full training.

The only certain absentee is Jonathan Kodjia, who will be sidelined for several weeks due to a cheekbone fracture.

The Boss

Dean Smith

"Any team is beatable, we saw that with Norwich City last week.

"When you go head-to-head with anyone, you have to believe that. We don't fear teams, just always respect them.

"The Emirates is a great stadium and it's a club with a great history and quality players.

"But we also know what we're about. We showed in the Spurs game last month we can go toe-to-toe with these teams."
