Dean Smith believes it’s only a matter of time before record signing Wesley fires in the Premier League.
Wesley joined us this summer from Club Brugge and is getting acclimatised to the top-flight after games with Tottenham and Bournemouth.
Smith saw promising signs in the powerful forward’s display against the Cherries and thinks opening his account could ignite his season.
He said: “Wesley had a couple of chances – the keeper has made a save and one has been deflected.
“He was a presence up front. He ran down the sides of them, too.
“He’s starting to get into the speed of the Premier League. It will take time for a few of them.
“But I have been pleased with his performances so far. All he needs is a goal now.”
Smith also offered an update on Marvelous Nakamba, who he says is “still a little bit off it” with the midfielder building up his fitness ahead of a Premier League bow.
Nakamba was not ready to make his debut in claret and blue this past weekend.
Smith, however, has been pleased with the effort and endeavour he’s seeing from the defensive midfielder at Bodymoor Heath.
He’ll be assessing the Zimbabwe star ahead of the Everton game this Friday.
He added: “Marvelous did extra work in training on Saturday.
“He’s still a little bit off it.
“He played one game in the AFCON and got injured.
“So he’s not done a lot of training before he came to us. “So we’ve been working on his fitness.”
