Blogservations: Emma Follis on dream return, CEO enthusiasm and top-flight ambitions

To start with, I must say it is a dream to be back playing football at the club I have loved all my life and to be writing to fellow fans about the women’s team. It is a real honour.

I’ve been away for five years at various clubs, gaining experience, maturing as a player and growing as a person.

I hope to use this to help propel the women’s team to where we should be, the WSL1.

After the great success of Dean Smith’s team in gaining promotion, it’s absolutely right to say that is also the goal of ours this season.

To be able to mirror the men and to play at the highest standard in English football is what everyone is aiming for and is the club’s ultimate goal.

CPWomensGameMy first few weeks back in claret and blue have been really positive.

On the pitch, we’ve had a really strong pre-season and now we’re looking ahead to our first game of the season against a tough Sheffield United side on Sunday.

It’s been even more positive off the pitch. To see how far the club has evolved within the women’s game has been exceptional.

To see the huge enthusiasm and belief from the club and, most importantly Christian Purslow, has been overwhelming.

The pure love and passion he has for our football club is everything you wish for in a CEO, that’s me talking as a fan and now a player.

We wouldn’t be in the position we are right now if it wasn’t for the impact Christian has had, his ambition and drive is contagious and you can feel the buzz all around the training ground, which makes me even more excited to get going this season!

Follis23I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this great club, to help push us towards success and to hopefully one day compete with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

I know this is the aim of the men’s team, and it is also the aim of the women’s team.

‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together’. I think that sums up the ‘One Club’ ethos surrounding Aston Villa at present, and if we do all want to strive together to reach success then I believe everyone pushing in the same direction, together, is vital.

I hope to see lots of you down at our games this year! UTV!
