New Aston Villa centre-back Bjorn Engels says he is nearing the match fitness required to make him ready for the Premier League.
Following a summer break and a stop-start training regime because of his transfer, the Belgian is still working his way through the gears in preparation for his biggest season yet.
And after gaining plenty of match time in friendlies this week, the defender believes he's edging closer to the levels needed for the top flight – with that opening game at Tottenham Hotspur now less than a fortnight away.
Engels said: "It was another good friendly from our side against Charlton. The lads played well again.
"We performed against Walsall in the week and did well again to score four on Saturday.
"Fitness wise, I'm getting there and trying to get to the levels required as soon as possible. I've had some good minutes this week.
"It was complicated when I joined, having to go over to the USA while waiting for paperwork to be completed. It meant I didn't train a lot over there.
"But now, I'm training every day and soon I'll be match fit again."
