Story in brief

Aston Villa claimed their second win of pre-season as Scott Hogan scored the winner in a tight contest with Shrewsbury Town.

Twenty-two players were once again given a run out by Head Coach Dean Smith, with combinations mixed up from the ones we saw in Minnesota.

The claret and blues peppered the hosts' goal throughout the first half, coming closest when Jota's deflected volley was cleared off the line.

The Spaniard was also involved as Keinan Davis forced a good stop from the Town goalkeeper minutes later, as the League One club continued to keep us at bay.

The breakthrough came just after the hour mark when new signing Wesley played a delicious through ball for Hogan to chase. He then tucked away with ease to secure our second win of the week.

Wesley makes his mark

After a few near misses in Minnesota on Wednesday, Wesley saw greater rewards for his efforts at Shrewsbury.

It may not have come in the form of a goal, but the Brazilian showed good awareness to play his part in the winning strike.

He controlled neatly and turned in a flash, playing a perfectly-weighted ball to set Hogan on his way and clinch the winner.
