Melissa Johnson is determined to fire Aston Villa Women to the top of the FA Women’s Championship table this season.
A summer signing from Leicester City, the striker has been lethal for her previous three clubs, finishing as top scorer at each of them.
Johnson knows the division well after finishing as the league’s top scorer two seasons ago while with Sheffield FC and she’s keen to make a big impact with Villa.
She said: “I want to work hard, prove myself again, score goals and help the team to move in the right direction.
“I think we need to go for it and aim for a top two finish. We need to go for promotion and give it all we’ve got.”
Johnson played against Villa three times last season, including a 0-0 draw at Villa Park.
Having become well acquainted with the club over the years, the forward is delighted to finally be pulling on the claret and blue shirt alongside players like Jodie Hutton.
She said: “I’ve known about Villa for a few years having played against them a lot. When the opportunity came, I just grabbed it.
“I’ve known of her [Jodie] for a good few years now and she’s come on a long way. She’s been doing really well and had a really good season last season.”
Johnson and her new teammates begin their pre-season schedule against Stoke City at Boldmere St Michaels FC on Sunday (3pm KO), with entry just £1.
