Matt Targett says Ryan Bertrand couldn’t have been more complimentary about Aston Villa in a chat prior to his move to B6.
Bertrand joined us in January 2014, making 16 appearances in the claret and blue under Paul Lambert.
Targett asked Bertrand for his views on the club ahead of a summer move and was impressed by what he heard.
He told us: “I had a chat with Ryan and he was massively positive about Aston Villa.
“He said it was a massive football club, with a great stadium, great facilities and great fans.
“I know he wasn’t here that long but he made a point of telling me how much he enjoyed playing here.
“He couldn’t have spoken anymore highly of this place when he chatted to me.
“It is a fantastic club and I can’t wait to start this new journey here.”
On the subject of fellow left-backs, Targett also praised Neil Taylor and stressed that competition for places will benefit both of them.
He added: “It’s massive for any football club to have two good players in each position.
“We’ll be pushing each other, no doubt, as far as we can go. Competition for places is only healthy for the football club.”
