John McGinn says that it’s positive vibes only in the dressing room heading into the Play-Off Final.
McGinn has the utmost respect for Derby County, who he believes will be difficult opponents on Monday.
But he says it’s been a bubbly Bodymoor this week as the players focus on what could be achieved for everyone associated with the club if we win the special showpiece.
He said: “We’re excited. We’re excited to get going.
“We’re all thinking of the positive side – how it would feel, what it would do for the club – and the ambition everyone has here to go and make Aston Villa successful again.
“We have the opportunity to do that on Monday.
“Lots of people keep an eye on that Play-Off Final. You do think ‘one day I’d love to play in that game’. Now have that opportunity.
“You won’t remember it too fondly if you get beaten. All I’m thinking about is getting us promoted and making it a special day for the club.”
On the Rams, he continued: “Even though we managed to get the better of them over the two games, I don’t think we got a fair reflection of how dangerous a side they are.
“In both matches they didn’t have Mason Mount and they had a few other injuries, too.
“We are under no illusions how difficult it will be.
“They have a top-class manager, full of attacking, energetic, enthusiastic players, similar to us. For the neutral, you’d think it would be very exciting.”
McGinn is determined to come out on top for the club, the players, the coaches and, of course, the fans who he’s struck up a fantastic rapport with.
He added: “The following we get each week – home or away – is massive.
“They’ve gone through tough times over the past few years so it would be great to give them something back and give them the success that they’re craving.
“It really would be incredible.”
