Juan Pablo Angel and Martin Laursen will make an emotional return to Villa Park this weekend – and you’ll be able to give them a rapturous ovation.
Angel and Laursen are two of the most popular claret and blue stars of the last 20 years.
The pair are here to watch us take on Blackburn Rovers – their first visits to our grand old stadium in over 15 years combined - and will be paraded on the pitch at half-time – so make sure you’re in position to cheer home our heroes.
There’s sure to be huge chants of ‘One Pablo Angel’ and ‘Martin Laursen Du Du Du Du’ as we salute these icons.
Angel joined in January 2001 for a then-record transfer fee of £9.5m and went on to score 62 goals in 205 appearances.
Quick, deceptively strong and also clinical in the penalty area, he developed into one of the most dangerous strikers in the top-flight, scoring some magnificent goals – the best undoubtedly his League Cup rocket against Chelsea in December 2003.
Laursen arrived from Italian giants AC Milan in August 2004 and, after initial struggles with injury, he went on to become a man mountain in the middle of defence.
He made 91 appearances and scored 11 goals as well as captaining the side, winning Supporters Player of the Year and scoring a memorable headed goal against Ajax in a 2-1 home win over the Dutch aces, with Villa Park absolutely rocking.
