5 reasons to be at Aston Villa Ladies vs Sheffield United Women

Ticket alert: Middlesbrough Ian Ross and Gordon Banks to be remembered this afternoon
5 reasons to be at Aston Villa Ladies vs Sheffield United Women

Aston Villa Ladies are 90 minutes away from a place in the FA Cup quarter finals!

Here are ‘5 reasons’ to back the Ladies as they take on Sheffield United at Boldmere St Michaels on Sunday.

1) Up for the Cup

The Ladies battled hard to get to the fifth round, coming through a physical clash against Stoke City courtesy of two second half goals.

Sheer determination was needed to pull through against a side from a lower division that smelled a cup upset backed by their largest crowd of the season.

The character on display against Stoke will no doubt be called upon when Sheffield United come to town on Sunday.

Both teams will think that a place in the quarter finals is there for the taking after avoiding the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea in the draw.

Just one point and one place separates Aston Villa and Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Championship and they’ve both won one league game apiece in their meetings this season.

A favourable draw in the quarter finals could see the winner of this tie in with a great chance to make it to the last four.

3) Goals, goals, goals

The teams have met three times this season, producing a whopping 14 goals!

United won 2-1 at Boldmere in the League Cup before thrashing Villa 4-1 at Bramall Lane in the league.

But Villa will feel confident after hammering Sheffield United 5-1 at Boldmere in the reverse fixture in December.

Aston Villa Ladies are unbeaten in their first three games of 2019, picking up two draws and a win.

Head Coach Gemma Davies and her squad will be looking to maintain that momentum with two games in four days.

A cup on Sunday would set the team up perfectly heading into a league game against second place Charlton at Boldmere next Wednesday.

LadiesFans5) Back at Boldmere

The Ladies have played only one home game so far this year, recording a record attendance when they played at Villa Park.

On Sunday, it’s back to Boldmere St Michaels – a ground that has become a great home to the club since the move from Tamworth in the summer.

Entry to the game is free for men’s Season Ticket Holders and tickets on the day are priced at £5 adults and £2 concessions.
