Aston Villa U23s: Young Lions aim to qualify at Bristol City

Game details

Match: Bristol City U23s v Aston Villa U23s
Date: Friday 18th January 2019
Competition: Premier League Cup
Venue: Stoke Gifford Stadium
Kick-off: 7pm

At a glance

Aston Villa U23s return to Premier League Cup duties on Friday night when they travel to Bristol City U23s.

The Young Lions head west knowing a victory will secure their place in the knockout stages of the competition they won last term.

Villa currently head Group F with nine points from a possible nine, six clear of Derby County and a further seven and eight ahead of Plymouth Argyle and City respectively.

Our U23s are also yet to concede in this year's Cup campaign – netting 10 times without reply so far.

Team news

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is no longer an option to Mark Delaney after he completed a loan move to Cambridge United last week.

But Kelsey Mooney has returned in fine form after his loan stint at Cheltenham Town came to an end. He's netted in both matches he's featured in since his comeback.

Given our strong position in Group F, we could see a few of the players that took part in our FA Youth Cup success earlier this week. A side made up of mostly U18s beat Reading 4-1 at Villa Park to reach the Fifth Round.

Tickets are free to all supporters on the gate at Stoke Gifford Stadium (BS34 8LP).
