Villa Park to host Aston Villa Ladies match

Aston Villa Ladies will walk out at Villa Park later this month when the club’s stadium plays host to their FA Women’s Championship game against Leicester City Women.

The match takes place on 27 January, with a 1pm kick-off.

The chance to play at Villa Park represents a fantastic opportunity for Head Coach Gemma Davies and her side, who will be looking to mark their first home fixture of 2019 with a win.

There will be a host of activities to enjoy pre-match, including a Fun Zone in the Academy Building, before the Ladies take centre stage.

Season Ticket holders have free entry into the match, while general admission tickets are priced at £5 adults and £2 U18s/O65s.

With the fixture taking place at Villa Park, current Season Ticket holders will be able to earn bonus Pride Rewards points as they would do with a men’s first team fixture, including points for each goal scored, attending the fixture and a win bonus should the Ladies come out on top! You can redeem your points here.

GemmaDaviesSheffUtdDavies is excited about the prospect of playing in front of a big crowd at Villa Park and hopes the fan base will turn out in large numbers for the match.

She said: “It’s a brilliant opportunity to showcase women’s football and highlight the progress we’ve made since the start of the season.

“Having such a young squad, many of the players will never have played in an iconic ground like Villa Park, so it will be a great experience.

“And while it’s great to have a game at the stadium, we want to entertain, play hard and ultimately win the match.”

LadiesTGGeneral Manager Amber Wildgust has seen the Ladies’ average attendance more than double so far this season, and she has set the bar high for getting people through the turnstiles at Villa Park.

She added: “What better way to start our 2019 home league campaign than at Villa Park. This just shows how far we have come as club over the past 18 months both on and off the pitch.

“Since the start of the season our attendance has increased by 113% and we are starting to change the profile of women’s football in Birmingham, creating role models for the younger generation and putting Aston Villa Ladies on the map.

“The highest attendance this season in the WSL Championship is 2,367 and we are looking break this record against local rivals Leicester City Women.”

Aston Villa Ladies play their home games at Boldmere St Michaels FC, where they comfortably beat Sheffield United 5-1 in their last home league game before the winter break.

With an average age of just 21, the squad have been improving from week-to-week during the campaign, and they will now look to mount a challenge for a top-half finish in the FA Women’s Championship.

Aston Villa Ladies resume their league season on 13th January when they travel to the north east to take on Durham.
