Dean Smith on Kortney Hause: Why we signed him – and how he’s trained so far

Dean Smith spoke of Kortney Hause’s “attitude, application and character” – as he also revealed the centre-half has looked “really good and really bright” in training.

Hause joined us this week on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with an option to buy.

Smith is delighted with the talent and temperament of the defender and also the fact that he brings added balance to the squad, being a left-footer.

Our Head Coach has been happy with what’s seen in training over the last two days and must now decide how to use him as we face Wigan this weekend.

He told Club TV: “Kortney is a good young prospect with bags of potential. He has quality. You’re not at a club like Wolves, who are now Premier League, without having quality.

“I saw him break through as a youngster at West Ham so I’ve known about him for a long time.

“He also gives balance being a left footer. But he has great attitude, application and character.

“You do a background check on all players you want to bring in – the recruitment side is a big part of it. We have spoken to a lot of people who have worked with him and he has a great aptitude for learning and that tells me he can fulfil his potential.

“I am fully aware of the player we’re bringing in and, more importantly, the character we’re bringing in. He will add to the squad and certainly bring us balance.

“He’s joined in training already and looked really good. He looked really bright.

“Time will tell where he is in terms of his fitness. He hasn’t had loads of game-time but he’s trained every day at Wolves. His fitness levels are still up there.”
