Dean Smith has spoken of “working very well together” with Sporting Director Jesus Garcia Pitarch and CEO Christian Purslow in the January transfer window – with WhatsApp playing a key role.
The top trio regularly discuss matters on the popular messaging service and Smith is delighted with the dynamics of the relationship.
Lovre Kalinic today became our first signing of the transfer window, with the hugely impressive goalkeeper joining on 1st January.
Smith is hopeful of more arrivals incoming – and stresses that quality is key.
He said: “Myself, Suso and Christian work very well together.
“We have our WhatsApp group talking about players. We FaceTime each other regularly, too.
"Suso has a great array of contacts throughout the game during his time at Atletico and Valencia. He has a wealth of experience.
"Myself, JT, Richard, Neil have knowledge of the English game – and, of course, the unique system I worked with at Brentford can be a help, too, in the recruitment area.
“We’re getting our heads together all the time and it’s working very well. To have got someone in as early as this in Lovre Kalinic is certainly a big plus for us.”
On this specific window, Smith spoke of a preferred option of permanent deals – and that there were “irons in the fire”.
He added: “Permanent would be the ideal situation for us. If it has to be a loan then we wouldn’t turn our nose up at it.
“But the one thing we want to do with each signing that comes in is improve the squad. We certainly believe the Croatian No.1 goalkeeper will do that for us – and certainly push Ørjan.
“But we also need players to come in and push the other players in the squad and make it a really competitive squad that can push us in this league.
“We have many irons in the fire that we’re looking to enhance the squad with. But there’s nothing we’re really close with at the moment.”
