FA Youth Cup third round preview: Aston Villa v Swansea City

Aston Villa’s youngsters begin their FA Youth Cup adventure this week with a clash against Swansea City.

The Third Round match takes place at Villa Park on Tuesday with a 7pm kick-off.

The game follows hot on the heels of a comprehensive win for David Hughes’s side over the Swans in the Premier League U18 League.

In that weekend clash, goals from Indiana Vassilev (2), Cameron Archer, Kaine Kessler and Aaron Pressley earned the victory, which now sees us fourth in the division and Swansea in eleventh.

Hughes will be relying on the same group of players as he looks to chart progress in the competition.

If we win, we will reach the last 32 which will see a home clash against either Cambridge United or Reading.

The Fourth Round tie must be played by Saturday 19th January.

It’s a competition close to the hearts here, as we’ve won it three times – 1972, 1980 and 2002.

In 1972, we defeated Liverpool 5-2. In 1980, we beat Man City 3-2. In 2002, we defeated an Everton side, featuring Wayne Rooney, 4-2.

Entry to this week’s clash is £4 [adults] and £1 [U18s].
