Game: West Brom v Aston Villa
Date: Friday 7th December 2018
Competition: Sky Bet Championship
Venue: The Hawthorns
At a glance
Aston Villa make the short trip to The Hawthorns on Friday for their second consecutive away game, where they face West Bromwich Albion for the first time in almost three years.
The two clubs haven't clashed since the goalless draw in the Premier League back in January 2016, and meet as two of the Sky Bet Championship's frontrunners this time around.
No other clubs in the second tier have scored more goals than Albion or Villa, while a win for the claret and blues would take them to within a point of the Baggies.
There's plenty of faces involved on Friday night who've been a part of both clubs, such as James Chester, Sam Johnstone, Gareth Barry and Neil Cutler – the goalkeeping coach who joined us in November.
Albert Adomah won't make the Albion clash despite Dean Smith being hopeful on his fitness a week ago.
The forward is still recovering from the ankle issue sustained against Birmingham City last month.
Henri Lansbury and Birkir Bjarnason remain a couple of weeks away, but Mile Jedinak is set to be available from the substitutes bench once again.
Given the injuries, Callum O'Hare, Jake Doyle-Hayes and Dominic Revan have once again trained with the first team over the last six days, and could be among Smith's replacements.
The Head Coach's key selection headaches come at right-back, with Alan Hutton back from suspension, and behind the striker, after resting Jonathan Kodjia at Middlesbrough.
Those who featured in those positions at Boro – Ahmed Elmohamady, Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie – all impressed Smith last weekend.

"It's a big game – we've not played each other, certainly in this league, for a while.
"I grew up supporting Aston Villa in the 1980s and it meant a lot back then.
"It's not been so big in recent years due to the division we've been playing in, while the Villa-Blues derby has remerged.
"There's been some great games between ourselves and Albion, though – especially when Ron Atkinson was in charge of them in the early 80s.
"The fact we're both going for promotion I think adds extra spice on Friday. This is our third season and Albion's first after a period of success in the Premier League.
"They remain one of the favourites. We're the two top goalscorer in the division. It makes for a great match on Friday."
We've completely SOLD OUT for our visit to The Hawthorns!
All 2,622 seats will be occupied in the away end.
