Yannick Bolasie says he is enjoying his football once again and is nearly ready to play from the start for the first time in Aston Villa colours.
The winger has appeared 10 times from the substitutes bench since joining at the end of August, scoring twice and assisting for John McGinn's opener at Derby County last time around.
And the 29-year-old insists that the completion of his fitness programme, coinciding with a more suited style of play, will finally bring the best out of him this season.
He said: "I'm enjoying my football again now, as well as my environment. It's starting to show on the pitch.
"The change in Head Coach has been good for me. It's a different style, but it suits me down to a tee and hopefully I can keep proving that.
"It shows another side to my game – that I can get back and forth down the wing.
"I'm enjoying it, and I can't wait to really get going. I'm nearly there and I'm feeling better all the time."
Bolasie adds that Villa set the standard they need to maintain all year in the rousing win at Pride Park 10 days ago, especially with the Second City Derby this weekend fast approaching.
He said: "I look at this team compared to others in the Championship – we should be up there.
"We need to maintain the standard we set at Derby. I'm confident we can. I've been playing against our players for years – we're a top two squad. It's up to us to go and deliver on that now.
"It says a lot that I was enjoying the Derby performance just sitting on the bench. We've set a standard now.
"Let's hope we can take the quality we showed last time around into this weekend now.
"I've only ever seen the Blues derby on television, so I'm looking forward to it immensely."
