Steve Bruce says the time is now for our next generation to grasp their opportunity.
The manager will look to youngsters to step up this season in light of what he calls 'inevitable sacrifices' in the transfer window.
Bruce took his more frequent selections Keinan Davis, Andre Green and James Bree to Portugal for pre-season camp, as well as U23s stars Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Mitchell Clark, Jordan Lyden, Jake Doyle-Hayes, Jack Clarke, Harry McKirdy and Easah Suliman.
Callum O'Hare is also in contention for more action, and is currently recovering from a knee injury with daily work at the Recon Training Complex.
And Bruce admits he'll now look to those players more than ever next season.
Speaking to Club TV earlier this week, he said: "We looked at a few last year - the likes of Keinan Davis and Andre Green. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is another one.
"It's a big season for them. We've got a sprinkling of very good young players.
"If ever there's an opportunity for them to come to the fold, the time is now.
"If they do that, we'll give them that chance.
"I've always said, if you're good enough, you're old enough. It's a real opportunity for them to make their mark."
