James Chester: The fight and desire is still there

James Chester says the ambition to reach the Premier League will always remain among the current squad of players.

The defender thinks he's seen enough in the first week of pre-season to suggest the hunger and desire is still intact.

When asked if the team were up for the fight again this campaign, he told Club TV: "I think so. It has to with the history this club has – it deserves to be at the top.

"Regardless of what's happening, it's up to us as professionals to continue to try and achieve it. You owe it to your team-mates and the supporters of the club to do your best."

Chester, who enjoyed a magnificent season individually last time out, has also urged the fans to match their efforts from the previous term, insisting it helps drive us forwards.

He added: "My message to the fans is to try and stay positive. They're the most loyal people involved with the club and they will be there through thick and thin.

"In my time at the club they've been a credit to themselves. They travel in great numbers.

"Hopefully they'll continue to do that. We've not achieved our goal yet and we'll carry on trying."
