Park Life: First glimpse of new kit, pitch rebuild progressing excellently and News & Record planning starts

McGregor motif

Here’s the first glimpse of our new kit – and it’s a motif of club icon William McGregor.

We revealed some months ago that the 2018/19 strip would feature a “visible nod” to our legendary director – and here it is!

McGregor will feature on the back collar of our home, away and goalkeeping as we celebrate the 130th anniversary of the foundation of the Football League.

KitMcGregorUpdateIt was in 1888 when Villa took their place as founder members of the Football League, thanks to his vision.

As we prepare for the upcoming launch, don’t forget we also have our new terrace range available – it’s now on sale via Villa Park and our Online Store.

Pitch perfect

Operations Director Ian Dimmock has spoken of “excellent progress” with the installation of a new pitch at Villa Park.

Dimmock says that we are one week ahead of schedule as we get the playing surface ready for the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

The previous pitch – including 7,000 tonnes of existing materials – have now been removed from the site while a new drainage and irrigation system – including eight sensor sprinklers - has been installed.

NewPitch3New undersoil heating has also been put in – and the pressure tested – with 19 miles of waterpipes installed as part of this.

Dimmock added that “4,500 tonnes of material has now been reinserted” as part of the rebuild – this is less than before due to the new pitch having a lower camber to improve sight-lines.

This week is seeing the “final build up” to ensure the pitch is at the required heights in readiness for the Desso machines to commence fibre-stitching next week.

Season tickets snapped up

We’ve now smashed through the 20k barrier for 2018/19 season ticket sales.

That includes 89% of supporters who have renewed for the coming term.

There’s also 2k new season ticket holders signed up and, in total, over 40% took advantage of the Zebra Finance offer.

We’re also at almost 1k more season ticket holders overall than the same time last season.

Does your person have a beard?

Popular board game ‘Guess Who’ is receiving the claret and blue treatment as we look set to bring out an Aston Villa edition.

It’s all part of an ongoing link-up with famous toy company Hasbro as we look to “increase and improve” our range of products within Club Stores.

Instead of Alfred, Bill, Max and David, you’ll have the likes of Gareth Southgate, Paul Merson, John Carew and Paul McGrath.

Each player takes their game board of 24 faces and places one of 24 mystery cards in the empty frame in each game board. This card represents the character your opponent has to guess and the character you have to answer questions about.

In further news, Aston Villa Monopoly is in the final stages of production and will be released in the second half of the year.

Digital boost

We’ve started the process of migrating our website to a new digital partner.

This switch will help bring a modern approach to our digital fan experiences - be it ticket info, player announcements or technical innovations.

We’ve overhauled our social media channels to reflect the character of the club and its supporters and introduced a sense of humour that is often missing from corporate communications.

As part of our new and improved website, our video platform has now changed to YouTube – so you can watch all our content from that channel via our website too.

Make sure you subscribe by pressing the red button – this will give you notifications to inform you of when new content is available.

Planning is now underway for next season’s News & Record.

English Football League teams no longer are obliged to print matchday programmes for every game after a vote at the league's AGM.

They had been mandatory as a result of partnership/sponsorship agreements held by the EFL.

However, the News & Record – which has been in existence since 1906 – will continue its rich tradition, which has seen it pick up a host of awards through the years.

It has won 'Programme of the Year' eight times - 1971, 1972, 1973, 1977, 1978, 1990, 1992 and 2005.
