Game details

Match: Aston Villa U23s v Brighton & Hove Albion U23s
Date: Saturday 12th May 2018
Competition: Premier League 2 Play-Off Final
Venue: Villa Park
Kick-off: 12noon

Scoring summary

Bejordal 23
Connolly 69

There’s been plenty to be proud of this season for our Young Lions but, unfortunately, their final game of the Premier League 2 campaign saw defeat in the Play-Off Final.

From the high of the Premier League Cup Final win at Swansea, there was the low of the loss to Brighton here at Villa Park.

It was a strong line-up for the U23s with Andre Green, Callum O’Hare, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Jordan Lyden all involved.

But it was the Seagulls who flew highest as goals in each half from Henrik Bejordal and Alan Connolly did the damage as our visitors were promoted to Premier League Division 1.

Bejordal tapped home on 23 minutes after pressure paid off in the box while Connolly powered home a header on 69 minutes to guarantee victory.

Our Young Lions battled to the end but it wasn’t to be as they came up just short.
